Tomorrow's Song

On twitter, @jonforeman (of Switchfoot fame) laid down the challenge today for followers to write a song with the title "Tomorrows Song".
So this is my effort. It's supposed to show solidarity and support for a friend who's going through tough times (and I have a few of those right now) and how we shold be there for each other.
(spot the Delirious? songs which helped inspired a few of the lyrics)

Tomorrow's Song
I sing this song for you
To help you getting through
The beartraps and the quicksands that this world lays out in front of you
To say I'm by your side
Along this bumpy ride
Through everything that makes your head say you should run and hide
I'll be right here at your shoulder
To help you be a little bolder
Together we can climb this mountain high, or stare the monster down

I pray you will be strong
I'll help you carry on
The darkest hour's over, turn your face towards the dawn
Each one of us can help the other, when everything's gone wrong
And I might need for you to help me sing tomorrow's song.

Let's talk about socks

We were at a wedding this past weekend - one of K's cousins, who lives just outside London Village, Englandshire.
Everything was going smoothly. I got a half day at work to avoid rushed packing.
I had been deliberating for the whole previous fortnight as to whether or not I'd take my kilt, which I finally decided I would.
We were at the airport in plenty time, the flight was fine and fairly smooth (though neither of us were impressed with the offer of a "Delicious" crayfish Salad)

Arrived at terminal five with minimal delay, walked down the nearby stairs, picked up our bags, walked outside and onto the "Hoppa" bus to our hotel pretty much as smooth and quickly as it took to type this sentence out.

15 before we were getting picked up, I was getting dressed in my finery. It was only then that I discovered that the one piece of my kilt regalia i was missing was my nice big woollen socks.

cue a nice big arguement (why is it that the more futile and pointless arguing is, the more heated and emotional it sems to get) and wondering what I could wear.
Which is more important - that I turn up at all, or that I'm smartly dressed.

In the end the least ridiculous compromise (after definitely ruling out just wearing normal sized black socks) I ended up in my dress shirt, jeans, and my brogues with the ridiculously long laces tied round the underneath, like I used to do with my football boots at school.

Still - the ceremony was good - packed to the rafters and obviously important to the happy couple; the reception was at the side of a large reservoir with Winsdor castle in the sunset hued distance; the speeches were long, but engaging and entertaining, and the band ( The Common Moral Cause which the groom and the brides brother are part of) were really rather good.

But I couldn't help thinking about my socks

glad he's not on TV every week

Our choir have been involved recently in filming for the BBC programme Songs of Praise

we were part of the congregation, in St Michael's in Linlithgow, doing the audio recording the first night, then the pictures (without mic stands in the way) the next night.

Then the choir by themselves did our 2 "feature" songs on the 3rd night.

I lost count of the number of times we sang each song.

the recordings were for 2 programmes, the first ot be shown on November 30th (St. Andrew's day, 1st Sunday in Advent), and the second will be shown sometime in May 2009

What do I do now ?

So what's the etiquette for blogging after a long time away ?

Am I supposed to fill in the blank and say what's happened since, or do I just go on from here, and forget the gap ever happened, never mentioning it again, like the time we all heard Grandma swear at the telly?

Come Back !!!

Someone mentioned blogs - and I remembered I had one.
Felt embarrassed at not keeping it up to date.
I now feel that it's been so long since I last posted, that folk won't mind (and probabubbly won't notice)

My "baby" I mentioned in my last post (more than 18 months ago) is still going strong, having just had a 20,000 mile service, and a new set of front tyres.
Here's a photo of the day we brought her/him/it home (I refuse to attriibute a name or gender to my car)

The other, human babies mentioned are also still going strong - our niece had her 2nd birthday this week.

goo-goo ga-ga

Had a bit of a baby themed weekend.
Our friends had a baby at Friday lunchtime, nearly 2 weeks overdue, so everyone was very happy and releved to hear the good news.

That meant K and I had to go "Baby-stuff" shopping on Saturday to buy them something - cue lots of cute outfits and cuddly toys.
So in the afternoon we went to visit my neice, now 6 months old and growing well. She's getting to that cool interactive stage, where you can play peek-a-boo with her, and make funny faces.

Then on Sunday we went to visit the new arrival, to present our gifts, meeting 1 set of very proud grandparents as well as our friends who looked tired,m but very happy.

I have to admit, I'm more excited about the pending arrival of my new baby - I ordered a new car a week ago, and it should be arriving some time in April. I can't wait !!

WHoooooooo are you ? Who who ? Who who ?

No, I'm not auditioning for CSI, but I saw Jack the Lass's results for this, and thought I should have a go:

You scored as Sleeping Beauty. Your alter ego is Princess Aurora, a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty! You are beautiful and enchanting, and as sweet as ever.

Which Disney Character is your Alter Ego?

Rock ON !

well ,the concert was great, and we had no traffic worries.
Our only pre-gig problem was finding the chip shop.

Switchfoot were fantastic - the lead singer Jon is completely bonkers - singing into his guitar pickup, stealing a cymbal from the drumkit for his own percussion solo, heading offstage and singing part of a song from the barriers round the Sounddesk at the back of the crowd.

They mainly played songs from their newer albums, but it was great to hear them play some "oldies" for fans like me who've been following them since they last payed in Scotland, in 2001 and in 1998 - hopefully it won't be another 5 years before we see them here again.

I felt sorry for them though - Lemonade productions, the guys who put on the fantastic Frenzy festival each year, only had standing tickets for the downstairs section, which ended up busy, but not packed. The venue then had tickets for downstairs seating, and seats upstairs in the balcony, both of which were very sparsely populated. The venue was great, but perhaps a little big for the crowd - it would have been great to see them at somewhere like th LIquid Rooms in Edinburgh.
